Are powerful, loud-revving V8 muscle cars incompatible with neighborly harmony? Start up your performance car before 8 a.m., or cruise home after dark, and you might be in for a call from the annoyed residents next door.

The 460-horsepower 2018 Mustang GT reaches about 82 decibels when firing up the ignition... which is as loud as full-on city traffic, coming from just your car.

Being a respectful neighbor is easy, though. With the active valve performance exhaust package, you get full control over your Mustang GT's volume with four selectable modes: Quiet, Normal, Sport, and Track. When you're burning rubber at the drag strip, let your engine roar with Track mode. When you're trying not to wake the neighbor's baby, put it in Quiet Exhaust mode.

The most convenient feature of Quiet Exhaust and Quiet Start is the ability to schedule times of day for each mode to activate. For instance, you probably know that you'll never want a loud startup before 8:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m., so you can set those as quiet hours.
